FAQ
Pest Control Questions, Answered
Straight answers about how we work, what it costs, and the pests Utah County families ask about most.
Working with Royal Guard
Are your treatments safe for kids and pets?
Family and pet safety guide every visit. We choose products and placement carefully, focus most treatment on the exterior, explain what we applied, and tell you how long to keep kids and pets off treated areas — usually until dry.
What areas do you serve?
We’re based in Spanish Fork and serve all of Utah County — from Lehi and Saratoga Springs to Santaquin, Genola, and Goshen — plus south Salt Lake County cities like Draper, Riverton, Herriman, South Jordan, Sandy, West Jordan, and Bluffdale.
How much does pest control cost?
It mostly depends on your home’s size and what you need. Year-round plans start at $79 per quarter. Answer a few quick questions on our free quote page and you’ll see your exact estimate in about 30 seconds — no obligation.
Is there a startup fee for the quarterly plan?
No startup fee — your first visit is just your regular quarterly price.
What if pests come back between visits?
If you’re on a quarterly plan and covered pests come back between scheduled visits, call or text us — we’ll come back and re-treat for free.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No. There’s no long-term contract — you can cancel anytime with 30 days’ notice.
Can you add rodent bait stations?
Yes. On your first visit we install tamper-resistant exterior bait stations (2–4, based on your home’s size) and 2 traps per floor, for a one-time equipment fee of $35 per station and $15 per trap. On a quarterly plan, monitoring and refills are $15/quarter for 2 stations plus $5 for each additional station. Say yes to the add-on in your free quote to see your exact price.
Do I need to be home for service?
For exterior visits, usually not — just make sure gates are unlocked and pets are inside. For the first visit and any interior work, someone 18 or older should be home.
What should I do before you arrive?
Put pets inside, unlock gates, and move items away from the foundation where possible. For interior service, clear access to baseboards in problem areas. For bed bugs we’ll send a specific prep checklist.
How soon will I see results?
Many pests decline within days. Some treatments, like ant baits, work over one to two weeks because the ants carry the bait back to the colony.
Pest questions
General Pest Control
Do I need to leave the house during a general pest treatment?
Usually not for exterior service. For interior treatments we’ll tell you up front if anyone — including pets — should stay out of a room and for how long, typically until products have dried.
How often should general pest control be done?
Most homes do well with a quarterly visit. Your technician will recommend a schedule based on what we find.
Ant Control
Why do I still see ants right after treatment?
With baits, seeing ants for a few days is normal — they’re carrying the bait back to the nest. Activity should drop off within a week or two. If it doesn’t, call us.
Are those winged insects ants or termites?
Both swarm in spring. Ants have pinched waists and bent antennae; termites have thick waists and straight antennae. If you’re not sure, snap a photo and text it to us — we’re happy to take a look.
Spider Control
Are black widows common in Utah County?
Yes — western black widows are found throughout the Wasatch Front, especially in window wells, garages, sheds, and under outdoor furniture. Their bite needs medical attention, so it’s worth treating those areas and wearing gloves when cleaning them.
Why do I see more spiders in the fall?
In late summer male spiders wander in search of mates, and cooler nights push them toward the shelter of homes. A fall treatment and de-webbing helps a lot.
Rodent & Mouse Control
Will you use poison inside my house?
Inside, we generally prefer traps so there’s no risk to pets and no chance of a mouse dying in a wall. Baits are kept in locked, tamper-resistant stations outdoors.
How do mice get into a house?
A mouse can squeeze through a gap about the size of a dime. Common entries are garage door corners, gaps around pipes and AC lines, dryer vents, and weep holes.
Wasp & Hornet Control
Should I plug a hole wasps are going in and out of?
No. Blocking the entrance of a wall or ground nest can push the wasps to find another way out — sometimes into your home. Let us treat it first.
Do you remove honeybee swarms?
Honeybees are valuable pollinators. If you have a swarm, we’ll help you connect with a local beekeeper whenever possible rather than treating them.
Termite Inspection & Control
Do termites really live in Utah?
Yes. Subterranean termites are found in Utah, including Utah County. They’re less obvious than in warmer states, which is why an inspection is worthwhile — especially before buying an older home.
Can I see termites myself?
Usually not — they avoid light and open air. Mud tubes on the foundation and spring swarmers are the most common visible signs.
Mosquito Control
Can you get rid of every mosquito?
No company can eliminate every mosquito, because they fly in from neighboring properties and waterways. Regular treatments can greatly reduce how many you deal with in your own yard.
Is mosquito treatment safe for bees?
We avoid applying to flowering plants and follow label directions designed to protect pollinators.
Bed Bug Treatment
Do I have to throw away my mattress?
Usually not. Mattresses can typically be treated and then sealed in an encasement.
Why does bed bug treatment take more than one visit?
Bed bug eggs are resilient, so a follow-up treatment catches newly hatched bugs before they can mature and lay eggs of their own.
Earwig & Box Elder Bug Control
Do earwigs pinch or crawl into ears?
The “ears” myth isn’t true. Earwigs can give a mild pinch if handled, but they are harmless to people — just unpleasant to find in the shower.
Why do box elder bugs pick my house?
They’re drawn to sunny south- and west-facing walls, especially near box elder, maple, or ash trees. A fall treatment before they settle in works best.
Home Protection Plans
Is there a startup fee?
No startup fee — your first visit is just your regular quarterly price.
